Subject: Earthquake in Northeastern Japan

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

We have received many letters and e-mails concerning the earthquake.  We are encouraged by the touching messages from all over the world.

There was a major earthquake in Japan, on Friday, March 11, 2011.  The cities located in Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures, the northeast area of Japan, have especially suffered catastrophic damage due to the earthquake and tsunami.

Tokyo is luckily more than 200 km away from those cities.  Our building shook and swayed several times for what felt like a very long time.  Fortunately, our building remains undamaged.  We would therefore like to report that all our employees are safe.

We thank you all for your messages of concern.  More than 90 countries announced that they are ready to help Japan.  We are very encouraged to hear such caring news.  We feel that we have friends all over the world and our thoughts turn optimistic.

Very truly yours,

Masatake Shiga
